  e-Design: Computer-Aided Engineering Design, Revised First Edition is the first book to integrate a discussion of computer design tools throughout the design h the use of this book, the reader will understand basic design principles and all-digital design paradigms, the CAD/CAE/CAM tools available for various design related tasks, how to put an integrated system . An overview of major research endeavors including the development of an enterprise architecture, knowledge-based systems and product data standards is presented. Finally, some topics for further research in areas ranging from distributed design and manufacturing to the development of product data exchange standards are proposed.

Computer-aided design (CAD) is the use of computers (or workstations) to aid in the creation, modification, analysis, or optimization of a design. CAD software is used to increase the productivity of the designer, improve the quality of design, improve communications through documentation, and to create a database for manufacturing. CAD output is often in the form of electronic files for print. Recently, substantial accomplishments have been reported in making computers emulate this fundamental human characteristic. As a consequence, much technical improvement has also occurred in the area of Computer Aided Design (CAD), Computer Aided Process Planning (CAPP), Computer Aided Cost Estimating (CACE) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM).

This research presents a conceptual framework for the integration of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Process Planning (CAPP). The conceptual framework resides in an environmental of N CAD systems and M CAPP systems. It consists of three major modules: a generic-part definition data structure, a preprocessor, and a postprocessor.
